The Dutch are good at trade and business, but there is another reason why the Netherlands is so rich. It has a very good location in Europe, which makes it easy to get to. The Netherlands is located on the sea and at the mouth of three major rivers: the Rhine, the Scheldt and the Maas. This makes it very easy to transport all kinds of products by water. The port of Rotterdam is the largest in the world. It can handle more than a quarter of all the cargo coming in and out of Europe by sea. Schiphol AirportThe Netherlands also has several airports. Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is the largest airport in the country and the fourth largest in Europe. It is a modern, international airport. In 2002 more than 40 million passengers passed through Schiphol Airport. That’s more than twice the number of people that live in the Netherlands. Schiphol Airport is also the home of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the world’s oldest airline.
