THE LARGEST CITIES

Most of the inhabitants of the Netherlands live in the west of the country, where the four largest cities are located: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. This area is known as the Randstad. Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, but it is not the seat of government. This is The Hague.

You might think that there’s no room for any countryside in such a crowded country, but you’d be wrong. There’s still plenty of countryside to be found in the Netherlands. Even in the busy western part of the country, there’s a nature area known as the Groene Hart (Green Heart).
