The Dutch believe that free time is very important. Many people spend their free time with their family and friends. They usually visit them at the weekend. I often visit my grandparents at the weekend with my parents and my little sister.

Lots of Dutch people also belong to a sports club, a theatre group or a music group.

Cycling

We really are a country of cyclists. Almost every person in the Netherlands has at least one bicycle, which means that there are actually more bicycles than people.

We don’t just ride our bicycles in our free time, we also use them to get to school or work. Because of the heavy traffic, a bicycle is better than a car for getting around town. It’s much quicker, and better for the environment too.

Music

The Dutch like listening to music. The Netherlands is also known for having the best DJs. DJ Tiësto, DJ Jean and Junkie XL are known all over the world.

Many people are in a band, choir or orchestra. The best musicians in the Netherlands play in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, which is one of the most famous orchestras in the world. It often goes on tour in other countries.
