The Frisian Islands lie off the north coast of the Netherlands. They are mainly dunes and sand, but there are also a few villages. In the summer many tourists visit the islands.

The Frisian Islands are separated from the mainland by the Waddenzee. The Dutch word wadden means mud flats. At low tide, you can walk all the way from the mainland to one of the islands. It is exciting and can be dangerous: you have to make sure that you’re back on dry land before the tide comes in again! That’s why you’re only allowed to go with an experienced guide. During the walk, you can see seals, mussels, shells and water birds.

Wading

I think the site below is a bit difficult to navigate, but it has lots of information on our Waddenzee.
