The Netherlands has a gentle climate. The winters are mild: the average temperature in January is 2 degrees Celsius (35.6 degrees Fahrenheit). The summers are fairly cool: the average temperature in July is 17 degrees Celsius (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit). But in the summer it sometimes stays warm and sunny for weeks, while in the winter there can be storms, frost or snow.

It’s often rainy and windy in the Netherlands. The Dutch like to complain about this a lot. But the bad weather can also be a good thing. We need rain to grow vegetables, fruit and grain. There are lots of flowers too. Each spring people come from all over the world to see the colourful fields of tulips, carnations and daffodils.
