Nijkerk

I live in a town called Nijkerk in the middle of the country. There are about 30,000 people in Nijkerk. There is a small shopping centre where you can buy clothes and do your shopping. There’s also a cinema.

It’s a lot quieter here than in the city. One of the reasons I like it here is because there’s much less traffic.

The town centre is very old. There are lots of nice houses and an interesting old church. I live in a terraced house in a new neighbourhood. There are only modern houses in neighbourhoods like mine.

Terraced houses are very typical of the Netherlands. They have two or three floors, a small garden at the front and a larger garden at the back. There is often a long row of identical houses along the same street.

There are lots of terraced houses in new neighbourhoods. In the past few years, a lot of new neighbourhoods have been built. They have low houses, gardens, canals and public squares. New houses had to be built because the Dutch population has grown a lot. At the moment, there are 16 million people in the Netherlands. That’s three times more than in 1900.

Most children like to have their own room, but there are lots of children who share their rooms with their little brother or sister. My little brother and I both have our own rooms. My room has a bed, a cupboard and a desk. I also have a computer, which I use to play games and do my homework. I also have a picture of my favourite pop star on my wall.
