WILLIAM OF ORANGE

Willem van Oranje.jpg (38 Kb)The Dutch royal family is also known as the House of Orange, after Queen Beatrix’s most famous ancestor. This was Prince William of Orange, who lived from 1533 until 1584.

William of Orange did so much for his country that he became known as the father of the nation. He was a calm, wise man, who always thought carefully before he spoke. That is why he was given the nickname William the Silent. He made sure people could believe and say what they wanted, and thanks to him they still can today. The Netherlands is a peaceful country where people can stand up for their beliefs and follow whatever religion they wish.
