QUEEN BEATRIX

Queen Beatrix.jpg (26 Kb)Queen Beatrix has three sons: Willem-Alexander (born in 1967), Johan Friso (born in 1968) and Constantijn (born in 1969). As the eldest son, Willem-Alexander is the crown prince and will take the throne after his mother. We don’t yet know when this will happen. Queen Beatrix was married to Claus van Amsberg, who was born in Germany. He died in 2002. The Dutch liked him very much.

On Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day), the third Tuesday in September, the Queen rides through The Hague to the Houses of Parliament in a beautiful carriage that is completely covered in gold. This is an important day in the Netherlands, because it is the day Parliament officially opens. In a long speech, the Queen announces the government’s plans for the coming year.
